Weimer Germany & the rise of the Nazi party?
The Wiemar Republic (not Weimer Germany) was the government set up by the the Allied Powers of WWI after the war was over. Although it seemed like a great idea to install a democratic government to help out a war-torn Germany, it was disastrous because of the Treaty of Versailles. The demands of the treaty were so bad that the United States paid Germany's debts for it, and even this didn't help because it led to inflation. The inflation during the global depression was so bad that it took a laundry basket of Deutsche marks to buy a loaf of bread! It was so worthless that it was used as fuel for fires. The weakness of the government and economy were so bad that it lead to the opportunity to have a dramatic switch in power, which it did with the rise of Hitler and the Socialist Workers Party. Germany didn't have the power to stop a radical with the people's support, so it was a pretty easy take-over for Hitler.
