What do you think of the plot of my novel? what ideas should i put into it?

i am writing a novel about a blonde-haired, blue-eyed girl named melanie pearce(mel for short) who lives with her wonderful single mother. her father had ped away before she was born. she had no brothers or sisters, but has a close relationship with her mum, alex. the only living relative mel had was her great-grandmother, an aged woman who lives in a nursing home but remains young at heart. mel loves to visit her and listen to her tell stories. mel is a tomboy who can skateboard better than any boy she knows and is a real daredevil. she has a bunch of great pals, but has to deal with a really mean teacher and a group of children who dislike her. her crush is a cute buy with brown curls called dec. her life was pretty exciting until her mum got cancer and is dying from it. mel is a brave girl who will be strong about it. please give me some ideas for that story if you can. how should she come to terms with her mother`s death and become a happy, successful adult? i need some help with that story.
